The Confluence, the 2nd phase of the ambitious Waterloo Greenway project, is set for a Grand Opening on Saturday, June 6, 2026.
Under construction since 2023, The Confluence reconstructs and stabilizes of the banks of Waller Creek from 4th St. to Lady Bird Lake. Three lattice bridges provide east-west pedestrian connections across the creek, while an 800-foot-long boardwalk allows users to walk along Waller Creek, bypassing intersections at Red River St. and Cesar Chavez St.

Waterloo Greenway, a public-private partnership between the City of Austin and the Waterloo Greenway Conservancy, is a 1.5-mile park system that is transforming downtown’s Waller Creek into a chain of about 35 acres of connected parks. The ambitious reconstruction project also mitigates chronic flash flooding, and stabilizes eroded banks.

Waterloo Greenway was preceeded by the Waller Creek Tunnel project, which removed more than 28 acres of downtown from the floodplain. It started construction in 2011 and began operating in 2015, with final completion in 2020. Next up for the overall Waterloo Greenway project is Palm Park, which is set to break ground later this year.
